1667  Will of Jephta Waller    (written in 1663)  IC/AA1/97/199

In the name of God Amen, the one and thirtieth Day of March in the fifteenth

Yeare of the Reigne of our Sov[er]eigne Lord Charles the second by the grace of God

Of England Scottland France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith & Anno que

Dom 1663 I Jephtha Waller of Waldringfield in the county of Suff[olk] Mariner

Being whole in body and of good and p[er]fect memory blessed be the name of God doe

Make and ordaine thro my last weill and testament in manner and forme following

First and principally I Com[m]end my Soule into the hands of Almighty God my

Creator and to Jesus Christ my onely Saviour and Redeemer nothing doubting

But that of his —-  goodness  and Mercie set forth in the preciouse blood of his

dearly beloved sonne Christ Jesus he will receive my Soule into his heavenlye

kingdome and place it in the Company of heavenly Angells and blessed Saints, Next

I Committ my body to the earth from whence it had first being there to be interred

at the discretion of mine Executors hereafter named And as wishing? that portion

of substance which God of his goodness have given me here in this life, I give

bequeath as folleweth,  Item I give and bequeath unto Edward Waller my brother

all that Messuage and Ten[a]mant leing and beeing in Waldringfield now in the occu

pacion of Thomas Page with all the lands and Appurtennances there unto belonging

to him and to his heires for ever  im[m]eadiately after my Decease he payeing unto so? it unto

Will[ia]m Waller my brother the summe of fifty poundes of lawfull English money

to be paid tenne poundes a  yeare yearely after my Decease until the said Summe

of Fiftye poundes be fully Sattisfied Contented and paid  Item I give and bequeath

unto Samuell Waller my brother all those my lands with the Appurten[a]nces lieing

and being in Walldringfild now in the occupant[i]n of Will[ia]m Goss the elder and

and his heires for ever im[m]ediately after my decease he paying out of it unto Will[ia]m

Waller my brother the Summe of fiftye pounds of lawfull money of England

to be paid unto him likewise yearely and every yeare after my decease tenn pounds

a yeare until the said Summe of fifty pounds  be fully satisfied contented and paide

Item my minde and will is that Edward Waller my brother shall pay and discharge

all my debts and funeral charges and see my will on his p[ar]te p[er]formed finely I

institute ordaine and make my trusty friend and Uncle Will[ia]m Gosse the younger

my whole and sole executor of this my last will and test[a]ment who I doubt not but

will be careful to see my will p[er]formed according to minde And I  doo give unto

Him for his paines the sum of three poundes of lawfull English money And

I doe hereby Nihillate?  and revoke all former by me made  In wittnes whereof

To this my p[re]sent last will and testam[en]t  I have herewith sett my hand and seale

Its the time of Charles II – still King of E(incl W), S, I and france. Jephtha has three brothers – Edward, William and Samuel. Sound as if tenants Thomas Page and William Goss are being given the right to stay as long as they pay the rent money regulkarly.William is given the task of landlord. Edward is charged with funeral arrangements and the like. The executor to the will is Jephtha’s Uncle William Gosse the younger, togethewre with Christopher Gunn.
