Hi Bob below are all the ‘bits’ gathered so far re: the Hut on the right at the top of the steps.
This is from Christiane Bowles
“I bought the beach hut from an old lady when in (I think), 1980, we were looking for a beach hut for a while and one day I was following two ladies up the steps, one telling the other that she wanted to sell her beach hut and nobody wanted it, so I offer to buy it, told Ian and we bought it. We used it a great deal thereafter until 1990, it stood empty for a while and we removed it as noone wanted it in 1995, not sure of the exact date.
I could not tell you what the hut’s number was.”………
I have asked her if she remembers if the lady was Mrs Sharps.
I am wondering if someone tried to put a hut up in its place and that is the one everyone thinks was removed by order of Waller or Church. Or if the hut was very dilapidated and they had to remove it. But pure conjecture

The hut on the right was owed by Mrs Sparks who was the first owner, she lived in the village at” Hope Haven”I have no idea why it was taken away. Mike
John Fish & Chris Baker
both have no doubt that it was there for many years

I would be interested to know the reson for the enquiry, I thought the Church kept records of the beach huts; we planted the russian vine which is still there.

Kit said that Mrs Stevens was the lady who put one up and was told to take it down, but not sure if this was in addition or instead of the Bowles hut. I don’t know anything about a Mrs Sharpes Sparkes
Alyson Videlo
Mrs Stevens mentioned above lived at Sunnyside. She gifted land for the Tennis course during her lifetime around 1959. Alyson maybe able to get some more info
