1448/49 Will of John Jenewes of Eye (extracted)
To be buried in Eye Churchyard; to the high altar of the same 3s 4d.: to the fraternity of the guild of Peter and Paul 6s. 8d; to the emending of ‘lamesheth’ bridge 6s.9d.* to each parish chaplain present at my obsequies 4d and to each parish clerk 2d; to each of my three godsons 4 bushels of barley
To Robert Turnour, my wife’s son, 5 marks in money; Agnes my wife to have, to her and her heirs, my messuage in the town of Eye, on condition that she, with her co-execs and the advice of Robert Anyell, dispose for my soul, during 30 years after my death, 80 marks in the celebration of masses &c (sic), that is, in the first year following my death 41s 8d, and in each year following, for 29 years 35s **

- Lambseth bridge is to thenorth-west of thetown, in Lambseth Street, the road leading out of the town to the north
- These payments total £52 16s. 8d., that is , 10s short of 80 marks, the initial payment should have been 51s 8d instead of 41s 8d.
Agnes & Walter Jenews were from Waldringfield and were executors but did not seem to benefit.
