1618 Will of George Bennett IC/AA1/54/35
In the name of God Amen I George Bennett of Waldringfield in ye
County of Suff[olk] Bricklayer the second day of Aprill, in the sixteenth
yeare of ye raigne of o[u]r Soveraig[n]e lord king James of England etc.
and in the yeare of o[u]r Lord 1618 being sicke in body but of a sounde
and p[er]fect und[e]rstanding as ever here to saie in the time of best helth?
thanks be given to God, Doe ordaine and make this my last will
And testam[en]t in manner and forme following vizt Inp[rem]is I
render my soule into the hands of Almightie God my Creato[r] to be
received into his kingdome of eternall glore through Jesus Christ my
Lord my God my redeemer and my saviour, and my body to be bu-
ried in Christian burriel It[em] I will that all and singular my tene-
ments and lands w[i]th theire appurtenances both coppie and free lease
In Waldringfeild in the sayd County solde by mine executors
hereund[e]r named to the best advantage and value they can w[i]th as
much and convenient speed as may be aft[e]r my death towarde the
paym[en]t of my debtes and legacies hereafter given and bequeathed
And whereas I am indebted to Richard Margettes gent the sume
of one and twentie powndes or there abouts for w[hi]ch at this p[er]sent he
hath assuerance of all my freehold lands in Waldringfeild aforesaid
my will and meaning is that aft[e]r the Redemption of the sayd lande
and paym[en]t of ye sayd sume of money to ye sayd mr Margetts or his ass
assignes my sayd execut[or] in like manner shall bargaine and sell
them all my sayd free lands to the best benefit they may or can for
and to the best benefitt paym[en]t of my sayd debts and legacies herein
bequeathed It[em} I give unto Thomas Bennett my brother the sume
of five powndes of good and lawfull money of England to be payed him my
said Broth[e]r or his assignes w[i]thin one quarter of a yeare aft[e]r the last pay
for the land sold. It[em] I give to Thomas Bennett the sonne of my sayd
Brother the sume of foure pownds of like monie to be payd him
at the age of one and twentie years. It[em] I give unto John Bennett one
oth[e]r sonne of my sayd broth[e]r Thomas the sume of fower
pownds of like monie to be payed him likewise when he shall come to
the age of one and twentie years. It[em] I give and bequeath to Will[ia]m
Bennett an oth[e]r sonne of my sayd broth[e]r the like sume of iiii li (£4)
to be payed him alsoe at his age of one and twentie years. Moreover I give
unto Elizabeth Bennett the daughter of my sayd Brother Thomas
of iiii li (£4) to be payd her either at the day of her marriage or
at ye age of one and twentie years w[hi]ch of them shall come first It[em]
I give to Elizabeth Perin my sister fortie shillings to be pyed unto her
w[i]thin one quarter of a yeare aft[e]r my death be payed and to her
daughter the sume of five (or ii(2)) powndes to be payde her when she shall accomplish
the age of twentie one years or at her day of marriage w[i]ch shall come
first. Item I give to Oliver Crossema[n] ye sume of five /////
pounds to be payd him or his Assignes in or upon mid summer day ???????? next
next coming after the dea??? —- It[em] I give to Reignold Gester the sume
of fortie shillines of like lawfull monie to be payed him w[i]thin one quarter
of a yeare of ye first pay of ye land sold. It[em] I give and bequeath unto
Johan my loving wife the sum of fower score? powndes of lawfull money
of England. It[em] I give unto my sayd wife all and singular my imple-
ments of household and household stuffe being indifferently priced as part
of ye payd fowre score? powndes of good and lawfull money of England
w[hi]ch xx li (£20] I will shall be payed to my Broth[e]r in law Will[ia]m Perin by
mine Execut[ors] and w[i]th him to remaine toward the bringing up of my
sayd child w[i]th meate drinke and apparel meete and covenient until
she shall come to the age of seventeen years soe as my sayd broth[e]r Perin
enter in to a bond of fortie powndes to Mr Curteis p[er]son? of Waldring
field aforesaid for ye paym[en]t at or before the receiving? of the sayd
xx li (£20) for ye paym[en]t thereof to my sayd daughter Anne at ye age of seven-
teene yeares aforesaid. It[em] I give and bequeath unto my daughter Johan
the like sum of xx li (£20) to be payed her at her day of marriage or at
the age of one and twentie yeares w[hi]ch of them shall come first. And
if it shall fall and that eith[e]r of my sayd daughters Anne or Johan
shall dep[ar]t this life before they or either of them shall come to the
said age of xxi (21) years or before they or either of them married then I
will and my mind is that the surviver shall have the dep[ar]teds sayd
legacis It[em] my will and mind is that if theire shall arise anie
ov[er]plus of monie upon the sale of sayd lands and tenem[en]ts and
upon the inventorie of my goodes cattells and chattels moveables &
im[m]oveables (my debtes legacies and funeral charges payed and
deducted) that then the sayd surplussage or ov[e]rplus shalbe equally
devided and indifferently distributed betweene my two sayd daught[e]rs
Anne and Johan by my sayd Execut[ors] It[em] lastly I ordaine no-
minate constitute and appoint Johan my wife and Christofer
Heyward the younger of Freston on the sayd County of Suff[olk]
yeoma[n] the sole Execut[ors] of this my last will and Testam[en]t
willing them or one of them or their assignes to distribute amo[n]ge
the poore people of Waldringfeild the sume of ten shillinges
at my burial — it may be. In wittnesse whereof I have hereto
sett my hand and put too my seale the day and yeare aforsayd

Bit long winded but wife Johan inherits main bulk of estate and then to the two daughters (Anne & Johan) to share what remains as I see it.
Several financial bequeaths to relatives which I assume Richard Margettes will oversee after sale of land/properties to cover debts etc and residue to be distributed accordingly
