Acknowledges letter of 2 June. Concerned that Bragg was inconvenienced whilst trying to obtain a taxi at the station. Everything possible is done to try to regulate taxis but there is some “pirating” by drivers and by the public, which is difficult to rectify. Is advising the Police Department about Bragg’s complaint.

Has read a good deal of African Genesis [by Robert Ardrey] and has found it very interesting despite the flowery language. It is very inaccurate. The author has made a great number of mistakes where he ventures into the physical sciences; comments on this. Would like to finish the book and return it when he is in Waldringfield.

Yesterday he placed two orders for cabs, one for that evening and one for yesterday evening. Yesterday evening no cab arrived and on telephoning headquarters he was told they could not send one as there was not one available. No message had been sent to this effect. Discusses the situation and asks if he can count on them in future to provide a cab when ordered.
