Expanded view of Quay area.
The buildings on the quay, from left to right The one you can just see, was the building known as “The Paint Shop”,the middle one was the main “Boat Building Workshop”, the dark building on the right was known as “Wickmans Shed” which covered a launching ramp, with railway lines and bogey which brought yachts up the slip way from the river. It was built for Mr Wickman a wealthy yachtsman,to drysail his Racing Yacht, I remember the building being full of Boats in my young days, The House beyond is “Swans Nest” a Mrs Mills lived there, .then Mr Lesley Alston the founder of Alstons Furniture Factory on the Nacton Rd. (Now pulled down) The posts were for barges to moor to when laying on the beach.
