1665   Will of William Gosse

In the name of God Amen the

nynth day of November  in the yeare of o[u]r L[or]d one

Thousand six hundred sixty and five  I WIlliam Goss sen: of

Waldringfield in ye County of Suffolk, yeoman. being of

sound & p[er]fect memory & understanding revoking all

other former wills & testaments make and ordaine this last

my last will and testament in manner & forme following

First I bequeath my soul to God and my body to be interred

in the churchyard at Waldringfield & for my worldly

estate I give and bequeath as followeth  I give unto Ann my

deare wife all ye moveables linnen wollen & all other

houshould stuff which were hers before wee marryed

Item I give unto my s[ai]d wife fifteene pounds of good and law

full English currant money to be paid by my Executor

hereafter named at these two termes tenn pounds to be paid

to her with in six moneths and five pounds to be paid

on yt day twelvemonth after my decease Item I give

unto her my said wife ye best cow I have at my decease

or such a cow as shee shall make choice of   Item I give

also unto her three combe of Rye to be paid in this ma

ner viz one combe on the first day of January next

after my decease & another one ye the first of January

ye yeare following & the third combe another yeare

after  Item I give her halfe a Remble of hempe half

fembell & halfe carle to be p[ai]d her by my Executors the

next Michaelmas after my decease  Item I give unto

her halfe my bees to take of my Execut[or]s after my

decease All these forenamed I doe freely bequeath

her shee revoking cancelling or giveing in abond

or contact or covenant made by me to her upon

o[u]r marriage & William Waller

Item I give unto my Grandchildren Edward Waller

five pounds to be paid them at the Age of twenty

one yeares lawfully demanded if Jeptha Waller

doe returne Item I give unto Samuel Waller

my grandchild xxxx xxxx now hang in ye parlour

where I now dwell   Item I doe give unto the poore

in Waldringfield the summe of tenn shillings

Item I bequeath unto my sonne William Goss

All my lands leases houses goods houshold stuffe corne

hay Cattell Chattells & those legasies I have

bequeathed as is expressed  Item I doe constitute &

make him the afors[ai]d William my son my only

execut[or]  of this my last will and testament

those words If Jeptha Waller doe returne was

This is the same William Goss, seniort, married to Ann butr there are variances. First the spelling of the surname. Second , this will was signed in the presence not only of son William, but also of Richard and Ann King. Third, there is an inserrt or proviso that suggests that nobody gets anything unless Jephtha Waller returns. Does this suggest a mischief has occurred or is supected?
