Have attached a background to the land survey done in 1656. 1656 and all that background This sets the background to the political situation at the time and why one may have been done. Namely Thomas Essington thomas Essington of Brightwell bought the estate from Richard Wingfield. Not sure why he sold it but may have something to do with the Civil War. Some Wingfields were Parliamentarian soldiers and Suffolk and Essex were mainly  Parliamentarian although most places in Suffok remained neutral. Most places were strongly puritan and Suffolk suffered more than most during the witch trials around this time. Many Puritans subsequently left for America before and after the restoration.
