It may also be of interest to you that the cricket club records are held by Mr Alan Barnes, who can be found preparing the cricket wicket in Fishpond land most Thursdays in the summer. Or I can put you in touch. These records go back to the 1920s when the cricket club began to play at its current site. Prior to this the cricket club played on the meadow behind the cement factory. Legend has it that the cricket kit was rescued from a pawn brokers in Ipswich by Albert Hill, who redeemed the kit with threats of violence rather then cash. Many of the club records shed light on leisure activity in the village.

You may also like to know that John’s Father Harry (Albert Henry Nunn) volunteered for service in WW1 but was recognised as a boat builder at his first inspection at Colchester Garrison. He was called out of the ranks and sent to Glasgow to work in the ship years for all WW1.
