Apr  75 PC meeting

Tennis court was inspected and all equipment examined resurfacing of tennis court to Wimbledon Standard.

Mr Nunn reported that Mr Saint of Rivers Hall has been emptying  the water from his swimming pool so that it ran down on to the roadway covering the whole road with water.

Complaints about illegal enclosing of land for dinghy park by WSC and diversion of footpath around the back. No planning permission obtained for this. It was referred and advised planning permission required and path diversion also required.

 

April 1976 Annual Parish Meeting

 

Complaint made about the lack of School Sports. It had been lacking for several years. Their reintroduction was strongly opposed by the Head Teacher and she suggested that “if the village wanted sports they could organise them”. Noel Edgar was approached as he had organised the Village Sports last July 18th that was enjoyed by parents and children alike.

Discussion also had about the lack of male teachers at the school but it was felt that the boys benefited from Rev John Wallers Boys Brigade in providing the interests and activities for them.

 

Playing Field Fence had been replaced in 1971 and has already been considerably damaged The committee decided that a method of deterring people from climbing on it was to plant some very spiky plants. Berberis was found to be too expensive or slow growing, and it was decided to plant roses. these are not the tame home grown variety, but a quick growing, fierce, man-eating climbing and hedge forming Australian mutation which was hoped would form a very prickly hedge to reinforce the fence. Thirty five bushes were planted.

 

June 1976

Rumble strips – The WI wrote to the PC about possible rumble strips in the road above Deben Stores because of the dangerous bend.

Police would be asked to have VASCAR radar traps and Mr Illingworth said one could be out in his garden.

Rabies noices to be placed on beach as it has now reached Channel ports. a squirrel had apparently hitchhiked from Scandinavia to the UK in a load of timber. Mt Edgar felt it should be kept in proportion as he had experience of living in rabid counries.

 

Oct 76

Fishpond Rd again flooded due to emptying of Rivers Hall pool.

Mr Nunn had granted WSC permission to empty their cesspit in wheelbarrows access along the foreshore.

Commodore stated that he understood bridleway to be the width of 2 shire horse and a man leading them, not 6’ as mentioned in parish records.

 

Dec 76

WI still pushing for rumbles strips or sleeping policemen or humps.

Jubilee committee formed from reps of WSC,PCC, Chapel Council,School, WI, Cricket Club, Bowls Club. MU, RBL,PC, Red Cross, Playing Fields com,Over 60’s , Village Hall, Young Wives (now Wednesday club) and Boys Brigade.

Problems with water skiers and speed boats around Tips, behind the Island and the Rocks. Cobbolds asked to put sign up.

 

June 77

3 fund raising events brought in total of £260.00.

Sunday 5th June           8am    Holy Communion at Hemley

11 am Church Service at Waldringfield

Monday 6th June         Procession of boats down the river with tea at the Rocks.

Barn Dance

Tuesday 7th June         Jubilee Day     Procession of wagons from Hemley to Waldringfield.

Re opening of Fishpond. Art Show. Flower Show. Cricket Match (Ladies v Gents)

Distribution of Jubilee Mugs and Disco.

Cyril Waller said he was grateful for the cleaning up of the Fishpond. He had helped his father (Thomas Waller) in 1920 and 1922 to do the same job.

Waldringfield Youth Club donated £68.32 to Church Tower Fund.

 

Apr APM 79

Village sign had been unveiled by the Honourable Sir Peter Vanneck, Lord Mayor of London. He started off the children’s sports day with the ceremony. Next year sports day would revert to usual Friday evenings again.

Nude bathing to be discussed at the next meeting!

 

1981

Waldringfield Society formed.

Aims:

Preserve the amenities of the river and foreshore

Support local industry, shops  and farms

Preserve hedgerows, copses and other natural features providing this is consistent with modern methods of husbandry

Press for more housing for young families

Preserve wild life.
