1631 Will of Jeptha Waller Gent
In the name of God Amen I Jeptha Waller
of Woodbridge in the Countie of Suff[olk] Gent being sicke in bodie but of sound and p[er]fect memorie
thanks be given to god. Doe this three and twentieth daye of Aprill in the Seaventh yeare of the reigne
of o[u]r soverigne Lord Charles by the grace of God kinge of England, Scotland France and Ireland
Defendor of the faith etc. make and Constitute this my last will and Testament in writing in manner
and forme following Inprimis I doe give and bequeath my soule into the hands of Almightie God my
Creator whoe gave it hoping to be saved through the only meritte of Jesus Christ my Redemmer And my bodie to bee
buried in that p[ar]iche Church or Churchyard of Woodbridge aforesaide in Comelie and decent manner according
according to the discrestion of my Executors thereto -perpect when by the sound of the last Trumpeit shalbe a
som[m]oned to arise and be united to my soule and remayne and live in eternall glorie with the blessed &
S[ain]ts in heaven for evermore Item I give unto my wife Diana duringe the terme of hir natural life
the Messuage or tenam[en]t wherein I nowe dwell together w[i]th the Backsides garden Orcharde and Stable
thereunto belonging shee to keepe the same in rep[ar]ations Item I give unto my said wife until Jeptha my
second sonne shall or may accomplishe the age one and twentie yeares All my Messuages Lands and
Tenement in Waldringfeild and Hemley in the Countie of Suff[olk] Item I give unto Diana my said wife
the Messuage or Tenem[en]t scituate in Woodbridge aforesaid w[i]th the Backside thereunto belonginge
wherein John Damsell nowe dwelleth together w[i]th all my meadowes and grounds lyinge over against
the said Messuage or Tenem[en}t And allsoe all my Close of pasture called the Long Pightell scituate
In Woodbridge aforesaid, And allsoe my Barnes and barnyard scituate in Fishpond Street in Woodbridge
aforesaid To have and told until my third sonne Will[ia]m shall or may accomplish the age of one and
twentie years Item I give will and bequeath unto Thomas Waller my eldest sonne his heires and
assignes All that my Messuage or Ten[amen}t w[i]th the appurtenances scituate and beinge in Ufford in the said
Countie of Suff[olk] wherein Adam Arnold nowe dwelleth togeather w[i]th all other my lands tenem[en]ts meadowes
pasture and feedings scituate lyinge and beinge in the said towne of Ufford and Melton or either of them
exceptinge onlie one hole tenement w[i]th thappurtances lyinge and being next to the Chuchyard in
Ufford aforesaid wherein John Thorne nowe dwelleth Provided always That my my said sonne Thomas
and his heires shall satisfie and paye unto Diana my said wife yearelie during hir natural life
the some of sixe pounds of lawful money of England to be paid at the feastes of the Nativity of St John
the Baptist St Michaell tharchangel The Nativitie of our Lord God and the and the Amdoracen of the
Blessed virgin Mary be even and equall portons And if it shall happen that default be made in payment
of the said some or any part thereof unto the Diana by the space of tenn dayes next after any of the
said feast dayes wherein the same ought to be payd and aforesaid Then I will that the said Thomas his
heires or Assignes shall forfeit for every such default the some of tenn shillings of like currant English ///

Into all and singular the aforesaid Messuages Lande tenem[en]ts and hereditam[en]ts (except before axcepted?)

to enter and distreine aswell for the said Rent for behind as for the noie pene? forfeited for non payment
therefor as aforesaid And the distresse or disstresses soe there taken to keepe and — destrane? until shee
shalbe satisfied aswell the -rrernge of the said some as the said noue pere (now spent?) I give and bequeath unto
my eldest daughter Anneys and her heirs and Assignes forever All that my Messuages or ten[amen]ts
w[i]th the appurten[ce]nes scituate in Woodbridge aforesaid wherein Thomas Barnes nowe dwelleth
togeather w[i]th theshopp and shop chamber w[i]th the appurtenences in the occupacion of —left blank———-
Mannestra there the said Anneys paying the early out of the same unto Diana my said wife the some of
fortie shilling of currant English money quarterlye for longe as there the said Anneys shall remaine
unmarried Item I give unto my sayd second sonne Jeptha his heirs and Assigns when he shall accomplished
the age of 21 yeares all my aforesaid Messuages Landes tenem[ent]s and hereditaments scituat in Waldringfield
and Hemley aforesaid Item Igive and bequeath unto my third daughter Elizabeth her heires and assignes
my foresaid Messuage or tenement with the appurten[an]ces in Ufford aforesaid where the said John Thorne
now dwelleth And I doe also give and bequeath unto my said daughter Elizabeth the some of three score
pounds of currant English money to be paid to hir by my said wife Diana within sixe months nexte
after shee the said Elizabeth shall have accomplished her age of 22 years Item I give and bequeath
unto my said third sonne Will[ia]m his heires and Assignes when he shall have accomplished the age
of 21 years the said Messuage or Tenement w[ith] the backside thereunto belonging wherein the
said John Damsell nowe dwelleth And allsoe all the said meadowes and grounds lyinge over against the
said Messuage or ten[amen]t together w[i]th my Barne and barnyard lying and being in Fishpond street in
Woodbridge aforesaid Item I will that my wife shall pay to the use of Marie my youngest daughter
into the hands of the Overseers of this my Will and hereafter p[ar]ticularlye named when shee the said
Marie shall have accomplished the age of 16 yeares the some of fortie pounds of currant English
money to be ymployed by the said Overseers to the best benefit in raising a port[i]on for the said
Marie against the accomplishment of hir age of 21 yeares Item I give and bequeath unto my said sonn
Thom[a]s and his heires aswell the revert[i]on of the said house wherein I now live after the decease of
Diana my said wife as alsoe the aforesaid Croft called the long pightell after the determynaton
of the terme aforesaid uppon Conditon that her or his heires shall pay w[i]thin sixe moneths next
after either the said house or pightlell shall maye or ought to come unto him by this devise the some of one
hundred marks of lawfull English money unto my said youngest daughter Marie w[[hi]ch I give and bequeath
to hir as a full porton and all soe in satisfaction of some small legacies w[hi]ch I have formerlia re-ewed
to hir use And if my said sonne Thomas or his heirs shall make default in the paym[en]t thereof then I
give and bequeath the Remainder of the said house w[i]th thappurtences unto the said Marie and hir
heires forever Item my will is that if either of my younger sonnes shall happen to dye w[i]thout yssue
of their bodyes lawfully begotten before the lands before bequeathed unto them or either of them shall
come unto them Then that land? Given to him for dyeing to be equallie devided betweene my said
wife and the other younger brother To hold to them and their heirs for ever Item Iwill that if
either of my younger daughters that is to saie Elizabeth or Marie shall happen to dye w[i]thout issue
of their bodyes lawfully begotten before theie portons shall come unto them according to my
bequest before expressed Then I will that the porton of either of them for dyinge shall be equallie
devided between my said wife and the survyvinge youngest daughter Item I doe make and ordaine
the said Diana my wife my sole Executrix of this my last will and testament And I doe give unto
hir All my goods Chattells, rights and Creditts and debts owing unto me and all other my
p[er]sonall estate for and towards the p[er]formance of this my last will and testament Item I doe —–
and appoint my most ancient and welbeloved friend James Goodwin the Elder of Rendham Gent
And my trustie friend Thomas Alexander of Framlingham gen Overseers of this my will And
I doe give and bequeath unto each of them for and towards their paines tenn shillings apeece
Besides all the Charges w[i]ch they shalbe anywares be at about the seeing or causing of this my Will to
Be p[er]formed Jeptha Waller published and declired by the said Jeptha Waller as his last will

Probatum paid to Diana Waller relict of the deceased (or maybe she was also deceased??
No specific mention of Waldringfield – seems mostly to be Woodbridge – Is this the first tenuous link to the Wallers of today?
This. Jeptha was the father of another Jeptha. Who in 1639 married Susan Goss of Waldringfield and through this marriage the family came into the ownership of White Hall and Church farms.
