The History group remains well attended and enthusiastic. In October the group presented last year’s talk on Waldringfield at Work to the Sailing Club and, in shorter form to the school. We had some lovely thank you letters from the children. Before Christmas the group printed a village calendar featuring a selection of old photographs from the village. Around two hundred of these were sold. Two articles have been published in the River Deben Association magazine.
There have also been two events run by the group this year. In Feburary we ran an all day history exhibition. This featured the historical documents and artefacts we have together with an extensive display of objects found by our metal detecting friend. These range from the bronze age to the present. To stage the exhibition the group purchased a set of six large display stands which have been donated to the village hall. The exhibition was well attended although we were disappointed not to see more children there. A DVD of village postcards was also shown and made available for sale on the day.
Our annual talk took place on April 6th and, we hope as we write, was well attended and received.
As a longer term project one of our members is now learning paleography in order to read the Court Rolls at the Suffolk Record Office.
