“Ship money” was a controversial historical tax levied by King Charles I in the 1630s, and Waldringfield, being a part of the County of Suffolk, was subject to this levy. The specific returns and assessments for Suffolk in 1639-1640 have been transcribed and studied by historians.

In Suff’olk the rate fell mainly upon the landowners, and they were more heavily rated than were the landowners of the adjacent counties. Compared with other counties the rate of taxation was : — Suffolk, 10th ; Essex, 15th; Cambridgeshire, 23rd; and Norfolk, 25th.

The order for the final levy of Ship-money was : —
Suffolk, 3rd; Norfolk, 7th; Essex, 9th; Cambridgeshire, 10th. The continuous progress of the county in the path of prosperity during the whole of the 17th century is marked by the fact that in the various assessments levied throughout England and Wales for the years 1649, 1660, and 1672 Suffolk stood second only to Middlesex in incidence of taxation. This position was largely due to the extensive shipbuilding industry carried on during that period.

(amounts might be incorrect but names are those that appear in the returns)

The other local villages can also be checked here. I believe those in Italics were not included in the total
