The History group remains well attended and enthusiastic. Several new members have joined our ranks over the year. Sadly we lost Andrew Haig who had been a  keen contributor. The 2012 annual talk was “The Titanic”; where the group assisted Malcolm Crawford in presenting his extensive knowledge of the subject and, in an exhibition the next day, his collection of artefacts. Both were well received and attended.

Last week the group presented “Waldringfield – the post war years”. This dealt with developments since the last War up to the mid-sixties. Over a hundred were in the audience and the illustrated talk was well received. Interestingly a significant proportion of the audience do not live in the village yet have a great attachment to it. Against expectations the group were given more photographs to swell the already extensive collection.

The group’s website www.waldringfieldia.com has grown over the year and many old documents have been added which are worthy of further research. Any villager or interested party can gain access to the hidden parts of the website by using the contact details provided.

Our palaeographer is continuing her studies and is becoming proficient at reading old documents. The Court Rolls going back to the 14C may eventually become accessible to us from this skill.

The group will meet later this month to decide on the next project.
