26th. March 1894 Hemley Concert for their Church Room at Waldringfield schoolroom. Performers Misses Porter, Ogdens Professor Eisholdt.
I believe there was skating on the pond, Fishpond Road, and the skaters contributed towards the Hemley Church Room Fund. The Church cost about £100, I have the account somewhere but can’t lay my hands on it at the moment. The Ogdens are a very musical family, who at that time rented White Hall as a summer residence.
The Porter’s are most likely from Hemley Hall. Richard Porter was Lord of the Manor, during the coprolite years. Some of the bricks in the house of Hemley Hall have various initials of Porter family members. Thomas Waller of Novacastria, the camera man, married Frances Ellen [Nelly] Porter from Rushmere. The RushmerePorters were related to the Hemley Hall Porters.
