10/9/45 No new housing would be erected in village. Only Manse & Old Maltings were
empty at present. The Manse was due for repair under War Damage Act.

13/4/46 The representative on the R.D.C. be requested to ascertain whether the R.D.C.
have any plans to build houses for agricultural workers in replacement of the condemned
houses in the parish.

15/6/46 Chairman outlined a water supply scheme & Mr. Bear moved that the scheme
should be proceeded with immediately.
Chairman read letter received by clerk re- Airey houses, outlining the type of
house, 4 of which it is proposed to erect in the village. The following sites were chosen;
(1) Cliff Rd. adjoining Widelands. (2) Directly opposite the Dairy Farm.

20/7/46 Mr. Stow moved & Mr. Bear seconded the proposition that electric light be
installed in the school.

15/3/47 Chairman read letter to Sir Cecil Oakes regarding installation of electric light in
school. The reply to that letter was then read, which stated that an effort would be made
to increase the candle power. Chairman pointed out that as electric light was non existent
in the school, would the installation of same be considered.

10/4/48 A letter was read, received from Eastern Electricity Board applying for a small
piece of land in the grounds of the village hall to erect a transformer in order that the
existing “H” pole may be dispensed with.

12/1/50 A discussion took place regarding the number of houses required to be built in
village. Suggested that the council should proceed with building of 16 houses.

17/8/50 Chairman reported on the housing position stating that 6 bungalows would be
built first. The tender from E. Woolnough had been accepted.
Chairman stated a charge of £10 would be made by council for ½” pipe & £12/
10/00 for ¾” pipe & it would be necessary for all householders desirous of having water,
to communicate with the Deben Council.

30/1/53 A suggestion was put forward by Mr. Stow as to the general form in which the
Coronation Celebrations might take. This suggestion was as follows:- Motor boat trips
up & down the river, say Ramsholt & back. Sports in the Cricket Field with perhaps a
cricket match followed by tea in the open if fine, in the Hall if wet. Events for children
plus an evening dance.
Council Houses:- Mr. Stow put forward a strong protest regarding the lack of a
Hot Water System, the only method being that of an old fashioned copper.

5/3/53 Outline of Celebrations:- Coronation Day Tues.2nd June. 10 o’clock Service in
church. Sports in Cricket Meadow in the afternoon followed by tea either in meadow or
at the Hall. Fri.5th June Whist Drive. Sat.6th June Motor Boat trips on river in morning,
Dance in evening

11/8/54 Discussion on parochial matters regarding among others the opening of a tea
room near the river front.

24/11/55 School attendance figures were:- Waldringfield 20, Newbourne 35, Hemley
12.

Nov.? 1957 Executors of the late Geo. Ravenshear agreed to sell, for £300, one acre of
Part OS96 to the Parish Council for the purpose of a Childrens Playground.
Mrs. Stevens reported that Mr. & Mrs. Stewart had presented a glazed
Notice Board to the parish & Mr. Goodwin offered to arrange room for it on his land near
the Pillarbox.

24/1/58 Refuse Collection. The Chairman said he attended the recently held Public
Health Committee meeting & it was discovered that vehicles & crews were the same as
in 1939. No provision had been made to cope with extra collections made necessary by
building programmes during the last 20 years & vehicles were in a very bad condition.
Chairman advised that 2 new vehicles would be operating by the summer & we should
have a fortnightly collection.

17/11/58 Chairman of the Playground Committee said the Playground had been
rotavated, ploughed 12”, harrowed etc. & finally drilled on Oct.11th. Our gratitude to Mr.
Orford & Mr. Read who arranged for fencing posts, netting & wire. Mr. Read had wired
along the Village Way border with 6ft netting with Mr. Kaznica & others. Mr. Gilder had
made portable netball posts & was making a set of goal posts

20/4/59 Chairman mentioned that the houses in Village Way will be modernized in the
third year of the County Council’s housing plans. A new bathroom will be put in & water
will be heated by boilers or immersion heaters.
Chairman said it was most kind & generous of Mrs. Stevens to give us the land
for a tennis court & an access to the playground from Village Way.

25/4/60 Housing Committee:- The Council are planning to build 2 pairs of semi-
detached single bedroomed bungalows for old people in Mill Rd.

10/4/61 The plans are out for 6 one-bedroomed bungalows for old people in Mill Rd. &
these will soon be started.

23/5/61 Mr. Dow mentioned that approx. 75 children attend the school, of which 17
come from Waldringfield, 9 from the Heath, 9 from Hemley & 40 from Newbourne.

27/7/61 Residential Development No.OS91 West of School, (for Mrs.B.Meysey-
Thompson). This area comprises about 13 acres. Chairman read several letters from
residents living around proposed site, namely Sir Lawrence Bragg, Mr. W. Gilbert, Mr.
Tyson & Mrs. Stevens all objecting to the scheme.

1/5/62 Civil Defence. The Parish Council’s Association delegate had been asked by the
new Training Officer to press the need for Civil Defence. Its main purpose today is to
develop knowledge in the public of what to do in case of atomic warfare & how to look
after survivors.

29/6/64 New Town on Martlesham Heath. A long discussion took place on the proposed
new town. It was decided to oppose this plan as it was considered that to site a new
town so near to Ipswich is bad planning & completely contrary to all the promises of the
County Council to maintain the amenities & the beauties of the estuaries.

5/4/65 Caravans in Car Park. These are to number no more than 25 in future.

27/10/66 Outline Plan:- Country Club, Rivers Hall for Rear Ad. G. H. Cresswell.
Outline Plan:- Hotel, Rivers Hall. Chairman reported that Ad. Cresswell already has
permission to build on the site of the old woodshed. It was unanimously decided that the
Clerk inform the County Planning Officer that we would prefer to see Rivers Hall
continue as a private house. We would very strongly object to a Country Club but would
have no objection to an hotel.
