Discouraging of houseboats especially ex MTBs etc.

1948 Boats anchoring off the beach for long periods are restricting the channel and becoming tangled.
1949

Mr Nunn wrote to Trinity House requesting buoys with patent mooring anchors to replace all beacons (they decline).

Suggestion that all boats are moored in future, no anchoring.

1949

Foreshore rights offered to WFC for 1s p.a. by Rev. T.Waller.

Further problems with boats being left anchored for long periods.

Trinty House agree to supply buoys Red to Starboard and Black to Port Woodbridge didn’t follow the rules).

1950

Six Trinity House rules black to stbd, red to port.

WFC agrees despite Woodbridge using red to stbd, black to port.

1958 WFC agree that WSC may build a “causeway” from dinghy park to the water.
1952 

Yachts on beach obstructiong hut users and wreck of “Adlam” annoying the Maybush.

Crown Commissioners repudiate Rev. Waller’s claim to the foreshore and discussion on boundary noted that the beach had been scoured away 20 feet since 1927.

Rev. Waller erected boundary posts below the HW line and is aked to relocate them for safety.

1953 Plan to acquire two cheap conical buoys for the Horse. Lower one to be Diamond B&W, Upper one to be Ball with red stripes.

Up to this point no waiting list.

Parish Council considered that saturation point for summer traffic had now been reached and there should be no more berths. – agreed

1967 reported that all land below mean HW belongs to Crown Estate, except slipway at the quay.
1970

Waiting list now 50.

Concerns about traffic congestion. Moorings exteneded by 20 added to North and South.

Change to Glass fibe buoys.

1960s and 1970s During the 1960s and 1970s there were several legal challenges of the WFC’s right to charge for mooring and there had also been claims by riparian landowners which the Crown Estate repudiated.
1968  WSC agreed to give up the trusteeship in return for an additional two representatives on the committee. Since 1970 composition of the committee has been two parish council members, two trade interests, one riparian landowner and four WSC representatives, two of whom should be village residents.
1969/70  new lease negotiations
1970  agreed to appoint a Harbourmaster, but this was not achieved until 1976. In the interim period, Mr Nunn carried out the services without asking for payment.
1970 Waiting list of 50, moorings extended
1972

It was decided to no longer buoy the Horse as no shallow could be detected.

No 6 buoy removed to be used as a mould for GRP buoys.

1973 reported that there were 300 dinghies on the beach (now in 2016 reduced to 200)
1973 new GRP buoys constructed. Nos 4,6,8 port buoys in position. One buoy chipped, discussion on fitting fenders.
1974 Speed limit sign ordered. No 8 and 6 buoys moved. Signs of Horse re-appearing so buoy re-laid.
1975

Crown Estates regularise the “unauthorised” boatyard slipway.

Buoys 1,3,10 ashore dues to chains parting.

1976 New 2A buoy. No 4 buoy moved to rar bank due to fishing boat being moored to it.
1977 Buoys 1,3,5 painted green to fit new IALA regs.
199X WFC oppose planning permission for a “Marina in Martlesham”
1975

Trinity House request list of buoys for inspection.

144 yachts, 50 dinghies, 216 dinghies on the beach.

1976 Consideration of dredging the Horse at the Ferry by Navy using explosives, Lt. Wignall mentioned that there might be a charge, this turned out to be £13,000 so it was never done.
1977 Trinity House advise that, from that year, Nos 1,3,5 Starboard buoys would have to be green to comply with the IALA system. Various discussions on the speed limit ranging between 5 and 12 knots.
1977

The Police diving team had helped with mooring problems:

Fairway attendant, Mr. Lord, appointed.

Calls for annual public meetings resisted.

1978

new Greenheart scrubbing posts installed with concrete pad. New Hut built by John Nunn. 

An Eel fisherman with a sort of anchored caravan was asked to move on.

The Police ask for an occasional mooring for their boat “Ian Jacob”.  No 6 buoy was found aground at Horse Sand.

   
   
   
1985 a total of 220 moorings licenced (now, in 2016, there are 222).
1996 WSC proposal for a jetty near dinghy park .
1999 & 2009 More  proposals for a pontoon received in 1999  and again in 2009 which were opposed by the Parish Council and WFC.
