Robert del Clyff

He was quite a character from the 1367 Court Roll reading by Mark Bailey. Note that this was after the Pestilence so he may have felt that he had the upper hand. —May 1356 ‘refuses to perform plough services as summoned by the lord’s reap reeve on four occasions’, fined 12d.  ‘pastures his sheep on le hethe against the will…

1035 and 1044 gift of land Leofgifu

Update: 01FEB20 Another, slightly later, document we found is an example of this confusion. An academic paper ((Williams, A. (n.d.) Earls, ceorls, thegns and lords.))  quoted: 'between 1035 and 1044, the East Anglian lady Leofgifu gave Godric her reeve the land at Waldringfield, Suffolk, which she had previously loaned to him.' We have Court Rolls dating back to 1356 for the Manor of Waldringfield Hilton and from 1561 for the Manor of Waldringfield Rivershall. These refer to Manors rather than to Waldringfield or Lesser  Waldringfield as in the Domesday book. They clearly overlapped the current parish but may have had diffent boundaries. As we saw in the Domesday Book records holding…

Rev Henry Canham

When Rev Henry Canham move away from the village his very important Suffolk Red Crag collection was bought by Sir someone who was an MP and presented to Ipswich Museum.  The best collection ever. Old Henry Canham is a bit of an unknowns of me apart from living at Nova Castra and rowing to take services at Ramsholt.

Hi Bob  below are all the ‘bits’ gathered so far re: the Hut on the right at the top of the steps. This is from Christiane Bowles “I bought the beach hut from an old lady when in (I think), 1980, we were looking for a beach hut for a while and one day I was following two ladies up…

Beach Hut owners

Who are these three people peeking over the wall? They are supposedly owners of the beach hut at the top of the steps during the war, that was subsequently moved further downstream.. They may be Army/RAF and may have come from Caterham. The man in the blazer we think is Mr Cleer Cutting.
